My journey into Fiber Art
It began in childhood, guided by a curiosity for textures, colours, and the simple joy of making something with my hands.
Over time, that curiosity grew into a deep-rooted practice—one shaped by years of crafting, learning, and refining techniques passed down through tradition and rediscovered through experimentation.
Each piece I create carries this history, but also a commitment to the future.
Sustainability is at the heart of Liath Handmade. I work with recycled, repurposed, and thoughtfully sourced materials wherever possible, giving new life to fibres that might otherwise be discarded.
Through mending, upcycling, and mindful making, I aim to honour the principles of a circular economy: reducing waste, extending the life of materials, and creating with intention rather than excess.
The landscapes and stories of Scotland continue to inspire my work—the textures of moss and stone, the rhythm of the sea, and the rich tapestry of folklore and traditional patterns that have shaped its cultural identity. These influences find their way into every stitch, every weave, every carefully chosen thread.
Liath Handmade is more than a shop. It is a reflection of a lifelong connection to craft, a respect for the materials I use, and a belief in creating pieces that are both meaningful and enduring.
